All applicants that are offered a position with the Town must undergo an investigative background check (conducted by the Police Department), a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, and a pre-employment physical with drug screening. Cannabis is classified as a Schedule I drug under federal law and the medical use of cannabis under federal law remains illegal. An applicant may be disqualified following a positive drug screen. 
The Marijuana Act explicitly provides as follows: This chapter shall not require an employer to permit or accommodate conduct otherwise allowed by this chapter in the workplace and shall not affect the authority of employers to enact and enforce workplace policies restricting the consumption of marijuana by employees.
